Tourism in Japan to Embrace XRP Ledger Payments
Japanese tourism could soon see a new payment option emerge. SBI Ripple Asia is developing a system based on the XRP Ledger, in collaboration with travel agency Tobu Top Tours.
This initiative aims to streamline payments for various tourist activities, including lodging, dining, and retail. The system will utilize tokens issued on the XRP Ledger.
Expanding Beyond Tourism
While initially focused on the tourism sector, the ambitions for this payment system extend further. SBI Ripple Asia reportedly plans to apply the technology to other areas, such as disaster relief efforts, economic revitalization projects, and even pop culture-related initiatives.
Tobu Top Tours will reportedly be responsible for forging partnerships and leading marketing efforts that leverage non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Stablecoin Integration
In a related development, stablecoin payments have reportedly gone live in Singapore. This includes support for USDC and USDT, facilitating broader digital currency adoption in the region.
The project is targeting a launch in the first half of 2026, potentially marking a significant step in integrating blockchain technology into everyday transactions in Japan.
