Japan tours on XRP Ledger, USDC and USDT payments via Grab:

SBI Ripple Asia Leverages XRP Ledger for Japanese Tourism Payments

SBI Ripple Asia is developing a new payment system to enhance Japan’s tourism sector. The initiative utilizes the XRP Ledger and stablecoins for transactions, aiming to simplify payments for international visitors.

The company has partnered with Japanese travel agency Tobu Top Tours for this venture. Their collaboration focuses on creating a system where customers can use tokens issued on the XRP Ledger for various tourism-related expenses, including accommodation, dining, and shopping.

Expanding Payment Options with Stablecoins

Beyond the XRP Ledger, SBI Ripple Asia is also integrating stablecoin payments. This includes support for USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT) on the XRP Ledger. The company aims to make these payment options available within the Grab app in Singapore, though details on the specific integration are pending.

Tobu Top Tours will play a crucial role in marketing and partner acquisition for the new payment system. Their efforts will also involve leveraging non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to enhance customer engagement and experiences.

Future Plans and Broader Applications

While initially focused on tourism, SBI Ripple Asia plans to expand the application of its XRP Ledger-based system. Potential future uses include disaster relief, economic revitalization projects, and initiatives within pop culture. The company anticipates a launch for the new payment system in the first half of 2026.
